Beetles becoming a problem?

With between 350 and 400,000 species of beetles in four suborders, it is not uncommon to have a beetle problem in New England. If you do find that you have an issue with beetles, you should contact Absolute Pest Management immediately. With over 25 years experience in the pest control industry, we are at the forefront of the pest battle. We serve New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and can dispatch a team immediately. There is no reason to put up with these problems any longer. These pests feed anywhere there is vegetative foliage, including trees, bark, flowers, leaves and rooting systems. They are found in freshwater marine habitats and come in a vast array of colors and sizes.

Deathwatch beetle – These beetles do mostly structural damage to homes and buildings. Adults have two sets of wings, and females can lay hundreds of eggs with a one-year lifespan. They cannot see well, so they communicate through sound and pheromones. There are over 12,000 kinds of beetles in the US and they can both help and hurt the environment.

Carpet beetles – 1/16 of an inch, and brown with white/brown/yellow patches, these pests eat mostly carpet, but will include wool, furs, hides, horns, silk and bones. They’re quite often found in attics, in wool carpeting, tapestries and wall to wall carpet especially in the underlayment or padding.

Powder post beetle – These pests are between 1/8 and 1/4 of an inch in length, are reddish brown, and primarily hardwoods, including furniture. These pests have been known to destroy entire homes, causing the frame to be structurally deficient. The best way to protect against these pests is to keep all of your hardwood protected.

Merchant grain beetle – 1/10 to 1/8 of an inch, and brown in color, these bugs can be found in pantries and food cabinets along with food processing areas and warehouses. They get into stored food and contaminate it by laying eggs and waste.
